I didn't know that about the addresses.  It might be worth having the 
bit where they have to write a note to the owner saying why they're 
joining when they sign up, but frankly, as long as the volume of spam 
stays low, it's worth it to have an unmoderated list, even if our 
volume has been low as of late.
