Laptops for basic audio production

2007-01-22 by garygenn

Hello all, I kind of want some opinions. I am a mac user and run LP7 on my Dual G5 and MBP
core 2 duo, BUT! I have run into problem that parallells cant fix(ya know , the windows
emulation software) In my field recording rig and live rig I use a crown XTi power amp and an
RME fireface. There is some cool features that I cant access on my mac even with the
parallells for one the XTi has tha Hi Qnet feature where you can change EQs and all kinds of
other cool stuff, and the RME fireface has a bunch of tools that are not mac comp. I, without
thinking enough bought parallells and win xp but the usb driver is buggy and it doesnt pick
up FW so I basically I have win xp on my MBP and cant use it for what I want.
I know ther eis a lot of companies that specialioze in audio PC laptops but I cant afford
2grand for another laptop . I was thinking abou tgetting a dell or a major name brand that is
kind of cheap so I can run those things I want and still utilize in the feild for recording or
even use it for my VJ software. which would be cool cause then I would have my MBP fro live
performance and recording and the PC laptop as arack manager for my gear/Video
manipulation/rme and crown tools/etc...
DO any of you guys use any of the dell,HP,sony,Packard laptops , and are happy with them.
Like I said I do have my love , my MBP but I would lke to have a 12 inch pc laptop with at
least a core duo processor and at least be able to use 2 GB of ram.

One of the only things holding me back from buying a dell say, is the fact of all that pre
bundled stuff. anyway any help is appreciated
