You could spend $20,000 on all the nice things to add - plugins, processing 
boards, control surfaces, preamps, etc. And then another $20,000 after that. 
For a control surface, I like the little icontrol by m-audio. There is no setup, 
and it works automatically with GarageBand and Logic. It has 8 channels, but 
then you flick through them 8 at a time.
