What I'm saying is that it is a good game if 1-you are a composer/songwriter and you have your own company AND you know how to run it or 2-if you are with a good publishing company, ie, one that actually does the work that they are supposed to do---In my experience, most do not do it. But to tell you the truth, in a certain way the songwriters are 50% to blame for their problems. 1-They don't read their contracts 2-the writers are famous for not being educated about the business end of things and 3-the writers ALMOST NEVER investigate the character of their new partners (ie, the publishing companies) and : do they have happy clients? Are most writers happy with what they have done? Just because it is a big company doesn't mean that people are happy with you. ----- Original Message ----- From: bloodychoir To: Logic_Cafe@yahoogroups.com Sent: Friday, April 06, 2007 8:52 PM Subject: [Logic_Cafe] Re: No need for publishing company for single person! Pardon the question but if publishing, which is one of the rare income streams for the songwriter, is such a bad game what exactly keeps a person in for long enough to become a director? Reads a little like the conservative politician gone green in retirement. And believe me I don't want to think badly of publishing companies today, they make record company people look like exactly what they usually are, shyster commerce graduates. --- In Logic_Cafe@yahoogroups.com, "Kent Sandvik" <sandvik@...> wrote: > > On 4/6/07, GAmoore@... <GAmoore@...> wrote: > > I got this reponse from BMI - so good news! > > __________________________________ > > > > Yes, you qualify to sign up for BMI if selling your CD's online.
