Welcome to the group. I think this issue was discussed a bit a few months ago. I have personally gotten away from partitions, and just have separate internal drives for samples, audio, and the system with Logic, so the Jam packs fit there - even thought I don't use them.

Subject: [Logic_Cafe] Installation Questions
Hi,
I just bought Logic, and I just joined the group. A quick search of
the archives turned up some replies to my questions, but I still need
a bit more help. I don't quite understand the whole installation
procedure for Logic.
I put the main applications on my system drive, as well as the analog
and digital "extreme" synths. I put several other things on my system
drive also, but I definitely can't remember all the file names.
Basically, I unchecked whatever I knew would not fit (I had about 21
Gigs left on my system drive when I began installation).
What I did not install (among other things) was the Jam Packs, since
they are way too big to put on my system drive at present. I do have
an external (partitioned) HD with 210 GB allocated to music. I
assumed I could put the Jam Packs and any other sound libraries on
the external drive. But the main install disc will not let me put the
Jam Packs (or any other content from the first dvd) on an external
drive. When I tried to put any of the disc 1 content on my external
drive, I got red "!" errors, stating that the content could not be
installed on that drive, but instead "must be installed on the
running system."
So, I see that there are 6 other discs here--3 Audio Content install
discs and 3 Jam Pack content discs. My questions:
1. What's the story with the Jam Pack content on the main install
disc? Is the content the same as on the separate discs? Since I
could not install the Jam Packs onto my system drive from the main
install disc, should I just install them on my external drive using
the other discs?
2. Are the 3 Audio Content discs *only* for use with Soundtrack Pro
(which I doubt I will use...at least not right away)? Or is there
audio content here that I might want to use with Logic?
Any help getting this sorted out would be much appreciated. I don't
want to overlook any essential content that I should install right away.
Powerbook G4, 1.67 MHz, 1.5 GB RAM, 80 GB HD (only about 13 Gigs free
now)
I'd call myself a serious hobbyist, definitely not a pro. I'm
completely new to Logic. If anyone needs any other info. about my
setup, additional applications I'll be using with Logic, or anything
else, I'll be happy to provide it if it will help sort out any of the
above questions.
Thanks,
Jeff
