Re: [Logic_Cafe] Re: Logic split - HELP FOR A NOOB?

2008-08-02 by GAmoore@aol.com

I away from Logic now, but I think you set the midi channel on an arrange track of logic to be 1 through 16 or all.

You can do things using the environment to split midi, and route each part to a different path - however, I don't like messing with this.

If I was you, I would make some custom EXS24 patches which have the sounds in the registers you want - perhaps sampling the ES1 or whatever and then you don't have to mess with any of this - just make your custom patches. If necessary put different parts of the song on different tracks, and change tracks during the song?

Subject: [Logic_Cafe] Re: Logic split - HELP FOR A NOOB?

hi all, i came across this list while searching clues as to how to set

up a split keyboard using two software instruments and an external

midi controller.

i found these steps below to be extremely helpful, but i am having a

problem. The split sounds i am using are ESX24 samples on the lower

keys (below split point of F3) and an ES1 synth sound on the upper keys.

Following these steps i got a split, however, the pich/vibrato/sustain

sent from my midi controller only work on the lower keys, the ESX24,

and not on the ES1 sound.

I also tried to get a split working around the
environment, by putting

two sounds in record enable in the arranger window, and restraining

their key range so the sounds don't overlap eacho ther. my thinking

was that i could assign each pair of sounds to a midi channel. the

problem with this setup is that all record enabled tracks seem to

respond to midi no matter what channel i assign them to receive, or

which channel my controller is sending.

i am using logic and a yamaha shs-10 as a controller to play live. i

need a synth sound for each song, and i want to use samples on at

least half of the songs. i need to be able to switch between these

split sounds on the fly.

can anyone help me understand

1) why the vibrato/pitch/suistain isn;t working in the split outlined

in the steps below for both sounds?

2) why are all record enabled tracks responding to midi even when the

channel selected doesn't match what is assigned or transmitted?

or

3) is there an EASY way to creat a split keyboard in logic that i

haven't tried?

any help would be greatly appreciated. i am not that good at fumbling

around in the environment, but if someone has a layer they can let me

try that would be awesome!

thanks! great group!
