Thanks for the input (FTR: I had checked the Mixer, no results; I have
no external synth) --

And I completely overlooked one of the cheapest, easiest fixes
possible: simply re-enabled Core Audio. 

I'd rather know exactly what was going on so I could learn more of
what to do, but I'll live with it.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
