in the audio-midi utility, i believe there is a test mode to make sure 
midi is getting to the keyboard, and making it sound.

its not extremely hard to do this, but there are a lot of little places 
it can go wrong. for example if you don't put the right port and midi 
channel, or set the hardware up to respond to midi - then it won't 
sound. i have also had bad midi cables so try swapping them out too. 
you just go through little tests and figure it out. its frustrating but 
eventually you will find it. its what we all go through. eventually  
you find the problem and you know next time.
