While I agree with Mr Moore the fast "SSD style drive" inside the Air is nice and the speed of this machine is amazing.. Whether the rest of the hardware is also as quick I cannot comment having never owned one but playing with one quickly shows the Mac Air to be a very quick device and surprisingly functional.. I would think that for portable recoding it would be fine so ling as you don't want to record a full Symph Orchestra using dozens of mics & Logic Tracks etc. My guess is that basic "Club" recording or band recording should be fine. The issue I would have is lacking in ports (only a few USB & no firewire) and relatively small disk drives however if it is only for portable recording disk space might not be an issue if good housekeeping practices are used... The new Thunderbolt port is fairly clever and there are devices now starting to appear with Thunderbolt compatibility so maybe when they really show up that would be a more valid choice at that stage.
