What happened is that the BIOS was so simple, that other companies were able to duplicate the functionality of the BIOS with their own code. That is how they got around the legal problems. The Mac ROMs were much more difficult to duplicate functionality wise and I think, but don't know for sure that that is why it never happened to Macs. Kamm
