X passwords

2005-01-17 by GAmoore@aol.com

Didn't someone tell Kamm the other day how to stop this need for constant authentication and passwords when you use a secondary user ID on your Mac? I set both to Admin, but I can't even install or copy to the main disk as I do in the other user space and its constantly asking me for the password - to empty the trash, shut down, ... anything.

Another wierd thing is that Native Instruments Absynth 2, Battery 2, and Garritan are all re-installed and registered propertly but they won't show up in Logic at all when I'm using the dedicated music usesr space. Anyone have a clue?

By the way, someone on this list as well as several Apple geniuses suggested using the Apple disk tools CD that comes with the mac to test the ram. I have all the originals but couldnt' find that one. Finally I disconnected the 13 cables on the back, and lugged the CPU into the Apple store where they told me the same thing about the disk - until I spoke to one fem-genius who said she had the same model g4 and it didn't come with a disk, and further they didn't have one either. So she perused the crash logs and said she guessed it might be the ram - another waste of time. I got home and ran an old verson of TechTool 2.5 which does Ram tests and it says everything is fine. I

did lose the UltraSCSI board and so far no crashes - maybe that takes some load off the powersupply even if not being used.

An interesting tidbit. I found an Apple memo to the Apple store employees. Looks like they make aobout $60k a day or about $5k an hour. Even if they had 8 employees working 12 hours at $15/hour that would only be about $1.5k a day, and if their rent were $30k/month, thats $1k per day. Thats some serious gross profit there !... about $57.5k.
