stereo file "creation"??!

stereo file "creation"??!

2005-06-13 by Brutal Organisation

Afternoon people,
This is such a stupid question and i'm sure there is an easy answer, its just not easy to find!!
i've been getting on ok with the whole logic thing, the steep learning curve is paying off but there is just one thing really bugging me...
Whenever/however i open a new track or import audio into arange, a second track apears apparently mirroring the output of the track i create. This makes sense on a stereo track one for R one for L, i cannot however understand its purpose in a mono track? and on imported mono audio.
Its not a big issue as i can just delete it but is this track used/usefull for anything???
it makes me slightly concerned that down the line this will cause problems.
Thanks in advance
Simon

You can change stereo tracks to mono. It seems you click on the ()) button and see the twin meters change to a single. You may have to do this on the audio mixer page. For audio instruments you can select a stereo instrument and that changes it to stereo.

I understand this gregory,
what i don't understand is why when i create a mono instrument it automatically creates a new track under the other tracks i am using with the same name?

Isn't this how Logic deals with stereo tracks if Universal Track Mode is
switched off? (Just guessing, I always use UTM).

sounds like your not creating a new instrument but rather creating a new track. are you using a key command for this? there are two - one for creating a new track with same instrument and one for next. But in either case you are not creating an instrument that way. In fact, I am not sure how you do create an instrument. You can assign an instrument to a track. maybe i don't understand exactly.

what i am doing is asigning an instrument to a track and then a new track appears with the same instrument on it, when i record into the 1st track and play it back, the newly created tracks leval meter flashes, as you would expect if it were splitting the mono files into individual tracks but this happens even when the 1st track is showing a stereo leval meter.
i'm sure this is an easy problem to fix its more likely my lack of ability in concisely explaining that is the problem!
the universal track mode could be the problem, where can this parameter be changed?
Thanks for your help

Original Record Position

2005-06-15 by Gregory Anderson

I recorded a whole bunch of audio files and am trying to add them to a
new song in their original record position. They were saved as BWF, so
I know the time stamp is available, but when I throw one of the audio
files onto an audio track in arrange, selecting "Move Region to
Original Record position" does nothing. If I can't get these files
back into their original relationships, I'm screwed. Any thoughts?

Yes. At least this is how it works for SDII files and I assume it's the same
for BWF:

Logic remembers the record position in the songfile, not in the audiofiles.
Before exporting audio that way, you need to select the files in the audio
window and choose "export region information" (or something similar, it's
been a while since I used it) to let Logic write the information to the
audiofiles themselves (it will give a warning about overwriting existing
information, but this information is void the first time).

You might have to do the reverse after importing them too, but I'm not sure
about that.

So I hope you can still access the original songs, otherwise you are indeed
screwed..:o(

Strange Kontakt 2 problem in Logic

2005-06-15 by fibrillation

Hi all,

I'm having a strange problem in Logic Express 6.4.1 and Kontakt 2:

When I have a note or notes starting at the very start of a song in
Logic, IE Song position 1 1 1, the notes won't sound/ be triggered in
Kontakt. But if I have the sequence starting a little further back from
the start, like at bar 2, then the notes in the sequence that is
triggering Kontakt will play back fine. This doesn't happen in any
other Au's and it's got me baffled.

Any ideas what might be causing this?
