Logic 7.1 has unexpectedly quit??

Logic 7.1 has unexpectedly quit??

2005-07-15 by weshambright

Hi All,
I am running OS 10.3.9, Logic 7.1 on a dual 1.8 G5. Lots 2.5 gigs ram.
On only one of my project I get a crash message (like the subject says) when I attempt to
open it. It loads all the plug-ins then crashes. The last thing I was doing in the project was
editing a EXS instrument.
Can anyone help me get this back open/

Thanks in advance...

Logic crashes every day for me, often every 20 minutes, so its not unusual. I was trying to work on an old song the other day, and i wanted to copy midi and audio from an old file to a new autoload file, and I got crashes over and over again just doing that. I finally selected the midi, hit command C, then closed the old file, then opened the other, and so forth.

In your case, try opening logic audio disabled (you used to be able to do that by holding down a key during startup - check the online help) - just so you can open it, then. You could also try importing the old song into a new one without opening it.

George, what does your setup actually look like? Ive been using 7.1 for
about two months now and have not had a single crash yet with it other
than iDrum causing the AUVal to crash. I regularly use Absynth 2,
Crystal, and the Waldorf VSTi's, (rest of my synths are all hardware to
keep bad coding out of the mix), MOTU 828MKII, G4 800Mhz, etc and all I
can say is Logic 7 has worked perfect and I dont think Ive ever been as
happy about an update before..

Logic users at the Apple Logic Discussion Board have been collecting a list of things to do
when troubleshooting Logic:

These come from some of the most informed and experienced Logic users. Check it out.

unfortunately it sounds like the song file is corrupted
however there should be the backup copy in the
songtitle.bak directory which will get you back
to where you were at the time before your last
save before the crash definitely check

Actually the .bak file doesn't open either.
Any other help would surely be appreciated.

Re: [Logic_Cafe] Re: Logic 7.1 has unexpectedly quit??

I've had luck using different versions of logic. You also might try
opening a new song and importing stuff from the old song into it.
Also, sometimes one of the plugs is causing the crash, so you can try
turning off all plugs from the AU Verifier or whatever that program is,
so your song won't try to load the offending plug. Or switch audio
hardware drivers so nothing audio loads.

Hope one of these helps.

Re: Logic 7.1 has unexpectedly quit?? THE SOLUTION!! YES!!!

2005-07-15 by weshambright

Gregory,
YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!!!
FYI Everyone on this list...Gregory is the man!
After reading your advice about the AU's I remembered seeing Spectrasonics Atmosphere
mentioned in the Bug Report a bunch of times.
So I started disabling my AU's starting with Atmosphere. Guess what it worked! My files
now open and aren't corrupted. I probably need to restore the atmosphere preferences or
something.
Thank you so much for you help...
Cheers,

I've had luck using different versions of logic. You also might try
opening a new song and importing stuff from the old song into it.....

Thanks for the many suggestions! I appreciate the ideas. That website is a good resource. I have also talked to apple tech support, and already done many of those things such repairing permissions and rebuilding preferences, updated to tiger and the pro app package, plus I keep all non-music things off of that hard disk, including AOL, Excel, etc. I only have bonafide up-to-date plugs. And I have gotten crashes from Garritan, Battery, Cameleon5000, and CS80, so I don't think its unique to any of them. It seems that those crashes come from something to do with ram usage because of opening a new plug, or freezing or unfreezing something. However, I have had crashes with files which only had a single midi sequence and no audio too. The multiple crashes the other day seem to have come from trying to copy some mdi and audio from an older logic song to a new autoload song - it did this repeatedly and consistently.

I bought a new G5 dual specificially because I was getting crashes on my G4, so that makes this doubly frustrating, after many years of using Logic 2.5 - 6 with virtually no crashes or the very occasonal "Try to save your song" thing it used to do. I also got rid of my Maudio board and use apple's built in audio interface (using an external A/d with light cable in). I installed what I consider to be good ram "Geil Apple G5 specific ram", but the one thing I have not done is to do the hardware test CD on that ram.

I've come to accept it as a "cost of doing business" that Logic is unstable, so I save often never knowing when the next hang up or sudden death might occur.

Re: [Logic_Cafe] Sound creation

2005-07-16 by GAmoore@aol.com

This is wildly off topic, but does any of you know of a program that
can generate a sound defined by user-entered spectrum data?

I have intensity values for 200Hz bands from 0-8kHz, and want to plug
them in and hear what comes out. I'm thinking along the lines of maybe
C-Sound or Metasynth, or, I can't think of any others that might be
able to do this.

Metasynth has an OSX version now - although I foiund I can run Metasynth 2.7 in Classic mode on my ibook G3 (for a few mintues before it hangs up). Also Cameleon5000 has some of that capability.

GREG you migth check out REAKTOR 5 there is some cool things on that program I know you
can down load a demo . I am gettin gready to get it you might be able to make a (create) a
ynth that does that in reaktor MAYBE not for sure. I think that is one of the sellin points of
reaktor is creting your own inst.

 Hope this helps
