New iMac - purchase and interface

New iMac - purchase and interface

2006-03-23 by Gregory Anderson

Hey, I've decided to bite the bullet and get a new core duo iMac. It
seems that it will run 4x as many tracks/plugs/etc. as my 1.5ghz G4 PB.
  Two questions though -

1. Does anyone know if there's any difference ordering online or buying
at an Apple store? I'm looking for the educator discount and a payment
plan, but would love to have a computer in hand ASAP.

2. My trusty RME Hammerfall PCI card is no longer usable on any Macs,
so I'm left with a need for an audio interface with ADAT input. I'm
assuming my best/only option is Firewire, and there seems to be nothing
under $500 with ADAT, except for some new Alesis io/14 thing for $300.
Any recommendations?

Thanks,

Gregory

I don't think you can get the educator discount at the apple store - thats what i have been told. So you need to buy online for that. In the past, I have founds its a wash either way. If you buy at MacConnection or whereever, they sell full price but can add ram and other freebies and there's no sales tax, but when you buy apple and get a discount but pay full tax and no goodies. So the apple store is not always best.
