MIDI in and Audio Instruments

2006-05-04 by Steven

I recenly acquired a Sequentix P3 sequencer. This device outputs MIDI data on multiple
MIDI channels at the same time on a single cable. In order to use the incoming MIDI data
with Logic's Virtual Synths I added a "channel splitter" widget in the environment, which
takes the sum out of my MIDI interface and routes the individual channel outs to different
audio instruments. This works fine, and the Audio Instruments play back the parts I
expect. This brought up 3 other issues that I can't solve and I'd appreciate any help.

1) If I record on a track with a virtual synth, no MIDI data is recorded on that track.
2) I figured that if I can't record the MIDI data, I can record the output of the Audio
Instrument. I can't find a way to do that.
3) I can no longer record MIDI data from my regular MIDI keyboard (which was working
fine before I started this dance) .

I guess what I'm really asking is:
What is the correct way to hook this stuff up? Is there another way to channelize the
incoming MIDI data and send it to Audio Instruments?

I'm running Logic 7.2 and have a MOTU MIDI Express interface and Tascam FW-1884
audio interface

Thanks,
Steven
