Help needed

Hi,

I'm using Logic 7.2.1 with a Macbook Pro 2Ghz, 2Gb of Ram, Mac OS
10.4.7 and the RME Fireface 800. I use the internal HD to record after
having experienced too many crashes when using an external D2 Extreme.

The MBP has been checked several times (memory, HD, etc...), no problems.

I wonder if someone out there is experiencing the following issues:

1/ Usually when going from one song to another, Logic crashes. I
relaunch, then no problems. If I then try to work on the previous
song, Logic crashes. Same thing, relaunch, then no problems.

2/ I could work on a song for a few hours, without any problems, then
suddenly, the sound will stop, the meters will peak and get stuck in
the red, until I press stop, and start again! Usually, this happens
when I'm either cutting or stretching a folder, or sometimes just
listening. Never had this bug before!!!

3/ I could play a song with 5 Audio tracks and an Audio Instrument
plugin. The Audio Tracks play fine, when the song reaches the plugin
part, Logic stops and I get the Core Audio message. Stop. Play.
Problem gone!

Apart from that, when everything's working, it's pretty sweet. the MBP
can handle quite a lot, impressive!

It's funny, I have Logic Express running on a PowerBook and I have
similar freeze & crash issues! Usually for me it's at the start of a
session and I am playing down my song. As soon as the song hits an
instrument track with plug-ins, I get an overload message.
"Stop." "Play" -and everything's ok for the rest of the session...
-Usually.

Perhaps it's more of a Logic issue and less about the program working
with a Dual Core chip vs PowerPC chips...

The point of overload seems to be slightly variable. Sometimes when you are
getting overload messages you can hit pause then play and it will work. there
is something about hitting PLAY from a dead stop, that makes Logic work
harder and then makes it stall out.

You can try freezing tracks, bouncing to audio, etc. Also certain plugs like
Sculpture are huge resource hogs.

You might want to get more Ram too. I have 4 gb.

Well, I'd like to but 2Gb is the max you can get on a Macbook Pro!

SX24 question

2006-08-18 by Sean T Lamont

Hi there.

I have an SX24 patch I'm struggling with. It's got LFO2 changing the
filter cutoff frequency, and the LFO is set to "1/16", not a free clock.
I'm trying to get the high-frequency portion of the LFO to trigger in
synchronization with the downbeat. It's a triangle-wave lfo.

Problem is, while it's synchronized from a tempo standpoint, it seems to
be basically random as to where in the lfo "cycle" the downbeat starts. If
I play through the track multiple times, I get different results. It seems
that the clock is not free, but that the synchronization with the lfo wave
is somewhat free.

Does anyone have any ideas on this?

Not sure about the EXS24, but most synths have a sync button or something
like that, which starts cycles at the start of a note down. You might to make
sure your notes are quantized and see if the EXS has something like that. I know
the ES2 has a lot of very creative sync properties.

thanks, it doesn't feel so lonely out there anymore :) Good to know it's
not a specific MBpro issue!
