< I usually don't get crash file saves in Logic 7.1.1. I think it depends on
the type of crash. I just save often, so when the inevitable crashes come, you
don't lose too much. I also try to not use a lot of virtual instruments,
especially ones like Sculpture or GPO. I am thinking to try to freeze things or
convert to audio, then use the audio files, but save the previous version of the
file in a folder in case I need to re-do it. I think Logic works pretty well
with audio/midi - but the softsynths and plugs bring it down - despite the cpu
    meter readings.>

...I do actually freeze all the instrument tracks that I am not currently tweaking... You're right in that crashes do happen.
I just wish that Logic had a built in Auto-Save feature. That would save a lot of hours of work when these crashes do happen...
Thanks for the sensible advice though, I'll be flexing my fingers for "apple" "S" every few minutes...

Ultrabeat question

2007-03-15 by Sean T Lamont

This might be a stupid question, but how do you make ultrabeat stop? Maybe
I'm approaching this wrong. I composed a repeating pattern, which I've
dragged to the arrange window (using 'drag to arrange window' in
ultrabeat), which will start the sequence, but even if there's only one
measure of ultrabeat, it keeps playing through the whole piece.

Just "turn off" the power button on the Ultra-Beat
Sequencer. (On the step sequencer section of the
page.)
It's kind of annoying but that's whatcha gotta do! : )

I think the sequencer mode can be changed so that pressing the note
triggers or begins the loop and releasing stops it. I forget what
they call that mode but cycle through them and see if one works for
you.

I think there's a way, but my approach is to drag over the pattern as
midi info, see the icon at the bottom with lots of dots, drag this
over to you instrument track. The nice thing is that I could make
variations in the MIDI info, or reuse them with other drum kits, too.
