Liquid Mix

Liquid Mix

2007-06-30 by GAmoore@aol.com

Hi Eddie

The Liquidmix is one of the most outstanding values out there but ... I find
that I am using more surgical EQs like the Elemental Audio or Cambridge. The
Liquid mix has a bunch of EQs but they are cryptic, slower to set up each
band, and not very adjustable (e.g. 0.5, 1, 2.0 but not .78 or 1.33). Sorta the
same deal with the compressors - I often use the LA2a or 1176 on the UAudio or
even Logic's own compressor. I have also been playing with Sonalksis's new
TBK3 which sounds cool at times but I am still forming an opinion about it.

I took my own vocal and run it through several processes - including some of
the UAudio plugs (Pultec, LA2A, Neve 1073) and Line6 Gearbox - burned to CD
and in a "blind" car listening test, I consistently liked the Line6 Gearbox
treated vocal the most. I have the Pod XT Pro rack and the gearbox plugin (which
together cost about the same or more than the Liquidmix), so the rack unit
funtions as a giant dongle for the plug but can also be used for any kind of
guitar recording. All those guitar and bass simulations which are first class. (It
only has 6 preamp emulations but a couple of them are pretty good - I think
Neve and SSL). I mentally wanted to buy the Neve (UAudio) as a cool thing to
have, but my ears told me "forget it" - and that one is much better than the
Liquidmix's interpretation of it.

I am also having a problem with running out of ports on my G5 1.8x2. I even
bought a PCI board for additional USB and Firewire ports for $50 and yet was
still having problems - such as some devices not working when several things are
plugged into the card are turned on at once. I think that was hampering the
Liquidmix too. Although I just installed a new board (the 3rd now) by SIIG
which seems to be the only one worth having.

Re: Liquid Mix - question

2007-07-01 by Man Parrish

Hi,

I have a question... I thought Liquid mix had that "free-range-mode" feature that allowed
you to bypass the pre-set adjustments on those classic units and have emulate an "infinite
control" over the preset-fixed parameters. Is that not happening, or work very well ? It
was one of the main features that draw me to consider getting Liquid Mix.

Thanx !
