rumor of apple firewire breakout box

rumor of apple firewire breakout box

2005-01-10 by GAmoore@aol.com

FireWire Audio Breakout Box - a.k.a. "Asteroid," a.k.a the product leak that triggered Apple's lawsuit trend against leaks. It's difficult to understand why Apple reveres Asteroid as such a hush-hush product. From all descriptions, it appears to resemble Miglia's HarmonyAudio, giving GarageBand users an easy and affordable way to plug their instrument into their Mac

What's unique is that it uses Firewire rather than USB.

Prediction: if those rumors about a flash iPOD with a radio in it are
true, it's going to be Sirius rather than AM/FM. :)

I don't think that's going to happen just yet. I'm an apple reseller,
and Apple in general seems to still feel that Soundtrack fills
a niche that Garage Band and Logic don't touch: the non-musician in
need of some fast, royalty-free music
for their commercial projects.
I haven't yet noticed them calming down at all with regards to their
sales training and support of Soundtrack, as I myself
had expected.
Although I would love for them to drop Soundtrack, as Soundtrack
reduces the need for real composers making real money
on real commercial jobs.
Cheers.

Soundtrack is a very different software than Garage Band and is incorporated
into Logic and Logic Express.

What's the best thing about Soundtrack? The Soundtrack Loop Utility. You can
make your own Apple Loops (not a breakfast cereal kiddies...)

A thought just occurred to me, for those of us with older computers (dual G4
533 here...) we can use Logic¹s node computing feature and one of these sub
$500 Mac¹s to boost our performance. Maybe have all loops and samples on the
iHome and Logic on our Powermacs.

I think I will try this myself and report the results to the group...

Easier on the wallet than getting a new G5...

you might need to a gigabit ethernet card replacement. I know my model "agp graphics" (Why can't apple just give these things names like "Quadra 410"?) came just before the "gigabit" model so I think that means I don't have it.

The node idea would be great if you offload audio tracks but if its just logic instruments and plugs it might not be worth hassle.

Where's this info coming from that Soundtrack's history. Apple
announced today the new Final Cut Express HD, which comes equipped with
a full version of Soundtrack, otherwise unavailable in the FC Express
package. Ships Jan 22nd.

Also, check out that new Garage Band 2. Wow. Garage Band 2 is like
Logic Express Express.

I thought I read a press release on Apple's site about Soundtrack being
discontinued but now I cannot find it. However, I cannot not find Soundtrack
anywhere in the Apple Store for sale as a standalone product, only as part
of FCE HD and FCP.

Sorry for the confusion. Anyone know for sure if Apple is still selling ST
separately?

I read that Apple has been telling it's retailers that Soundtrack is at the
end of its cycle and that it would not be upgraded. Also that they no longer
sell it on their website. Maybe it is going the way of Soundiver. I'm hoping
that Soundiver will become integrated with Logic Pro(I hope Logic Pro 7.1).
