Discussion: How to best transfer from Logic to (other DAW)
2009-01-17 by pete_buchwald
Hey Group,
I thought I'd kick of the weekend by openning up a minor can of worms. Lately I favor
Logic for virtual instruments, and Pro Tools for pure audio.
I thought I would share how I transfer the projects to Pro Tools, and see if anybody has
had more satisfactory results with other methods.
#1 The Freeze Method - Freeze all tracks that you want transferred (I bypass any DSP
plugins for my purposes). Then go into the project folder and retrieve the freeze files for
the transfer purpose.
PROBLEM: I think it's because Logic does floating point and PT doesn't, but the audio
transferred via the freeze method clips on the super high transients, above 0.0 dB FS.
#2 Get on the Bus Method - This is to gain audio regions (not virtual inst), that are all
the same length, so they line up perfectly/easily in another DAW. Make a new audio track
for each desired track to bounce, take advantage of checking the "ascending" input, use a
series of available busses for the input. Then assign the output of the desired tracks to
the new audio tracks, again, bypass any effects you don't want transferred. Record. Then
you can fetch the files from the project audio folder.
Just curious how other's do this sort of thing.
