My new recording workflow (Logic 8 Studio)

My new recording workflow (Logic 8 Studio)

Having both Logic Studio (8) and Garageband 09 on my system..

Garageband has access to all the loops and samples (24GB) from Logic.. I find GB so intuitive and easy to record in that I record all my parts - solo studio - in GB, down to volume automation for the percussion tracks. So I get a rough mix in GB.

Then I drag the project.BAND file into Logic, and I use Logic's more advanced tone shaping.

Regarding my previous 'why can't I use my external MIDI fader unit while bouncing' issue, still unsolved, here's what I've developed.

As discussed, I map each Midi fader to the corresponding onscreen mixer fader.. this works as long as I'm not in Bounce mode.

But the goal is to get a stereo mix. I have an external CD recorder.. so I use the stereo line level out of my Mac into the proper RCA splitter cable, and record the mix, riding the physical faders on the MIDI unit, onto the external CD recorder. I love mixing this way - great mixes are a combination of knowing the music well, along with fortuitous happy accidents.

If Logic worked properly with external controllers I wouldn't have to go around the block to do this.
