Apple Logic Pro /LogicExpress Discussion

Hey gang,

    Recently I did some customizing of a few shortcuts.  I'll share which ones I customized, and I'd be curious to hear which ones you customize?

    Info on "how to customize shortcuts?" will be at the bottom of this post.

    Here's a few of the more notable ones that I programmed away from the defaults:

       I programmed the number keys to be single key "go to marker ___" shortcuts.   So after entering a marker (control k) I programmed it to go to the first marker by simply hitting the number one.    I don't use "screen sets", so this shortcut in navigation is very helpful.  

    I changed the shortcut for new track to be the same as Pro Tools:   shift-apple-N.  

    On my laptop I'm trying to use the Pro Tools shortcuts for zoom horizontally in/out to be R and T.    Not sure I like that one, easier to have the old control plus arrow keys to handle all zooming vertically and horizontally.

      To program your own shortcuts (even using a midi controller, like ... upper 4 keys of a an 88 key keyboard to control stop/start/record/rewind, etc.)    

     1.  Open the shortcuts page with option k.  

     2.  Locate the shortcut you wish to program, using the search window with the proper name for the function is fastest.  

    3.  Highlight the desired function.

    4.  Select the:  Learn By Key Label button.

    5.  Press the desired key combination.   

    6.  You can save your keyboard shortcuts (to use on other computer, eg).  In the shortcuts window select Options/Export.    Create a new folder with your name and the date.    It's a very small file, so you can e-mail it to yourself, post on a server (dropbox.com, etc.).  

    7.  It's not a bad idea to print up a list of all the shortcuts and read through it every once in a while, learn a new one or two while you eat your Cheerios in the morning.   In the shortcuts window select Options/copy key commands to clipboard.   then you can paste them in a word processor, print it up, etc.   

     I look forward to hearing what shortcuts YOU tweaked.

I have long edit the key commands too. There are probably 2,000 of them 
by now - they keep adding more, and most are unassigned, so you really 
need to decide what suits your working style. In the past, I 
copy-and-pasted them to a Word document, and then formatted that before 
printing and stapling to make a little booklet of key commands.

I use the + and - keys to increase or decrease the part denomonitor. 
Then < and > for FF and Rew with various modifier keys for bar, 8 bars, 
single beat or single part. Similarly left and right arrows with the 
same modifiers for nudge by bar, beat, part, or tick. C for the color 
menu. the keys I hit the most are 0, period, and ENTER on the numeric 
pad - for stop/play, enable/disable cycle, etc.
