Dear Mr. Caratin . . .
Thank you very much for yet another thoroughly enjoyable British Car Day on September 16th. Great day, great turnout, great organization!
May I make a suggestion? The "Aston Martin and Other Sports" class DD is presently such a huge and disparate collection of cars that it is difficult to make valid comparisons amongst all the entrants. No doubt that the Aston Martin is a great car and worthy of winning the voters' approval, but then it should be, as it cost (both new and used) at least 10 times what a Gilbern, Reliant, Marcos, or other similar car fetches in the market-place. In reality, I think there are 2 distinct categories that should be recognized:
1. "exotics" such as Aston Martin, Allard, AC, Jensen Interceptor, etc which were generally characterized by metal bodies, high levels of fit and finish, and very high original prices.
2. "populars" such as TVR, Gilbern, Reliant, Marcos, etc which were generally characterized by fibreglass bodies, sourced-in engines and mechanicals (often from Triumph!), and much more affordable original prices.
I'm sure you want to avoid increasing the number of classes as much as possible. I note that class HH - TVR has had declining attendance over the past several years, with only 3 entrants this year. Expanding HH to include the fibreglass cars, and leaving the exotics in DD would accomplish my suggestion without an increase in the number of classes.
And, yes, I'm not an entirely disinterested observer. I own the silver-blue Marcos Mantis that has appeared for the last 6 years at British Car Day in the "Other" class.

We take our cars to the Bronte Park British Car show in September. This is a huge show (over 1000 cars last year), with over 40 classes. It's run by the Toronto Triumph Club, so of course there are classes for every Triumph variant. But they also have separate classes for chrome and rubber bumper MGBs, and even a class for TVRs, for Jensens, for . . . You get the idea. Our Marcos cars get lumped into the ubiquitous "Other" class, where we compete against Aston Martins, Cobras, Allards, a fake Bugatti, Bonds, Gilberns, Reliants, and everything else that can't find a home in one of the available categories. Every year an Aston Martin wins the class. However, the crowds gather around our cars, and, like you, we spend most of the day answering questions, and raising and lowering the hood (bonnet) to satisfy the curious.Regards . . . Ron McLeod

My first car show experience wasn't as good. It was a local show with a WIDE variety of cars. I was placed in the "sports car" category which had everything from a 50s MGTD to a brand new Corvette and Acura NSX. I had a constant stream of people and questions all day, but the awards in my class went to the AC Cobras (1 original and 1 replica) which, oddly enough, win this show EVERY year.

Took the Mantis to a British Car show in Port Perry (northeast of Toronto)
on Saturday. Since I live southwest of Toronto, I got to enjoy a 2-hour 100
mile drive on the backroads to get around Toronto, and another 2 hours back
again, in perfect weather. Entrants got to vote for 3 awards - best saloon,
best production sports car, and best limited production sports car. Believe
it or not, my Mantis won first place in the limited production category.
