Hi
Larry,
A much
more workable solution for the Volvo would be to acquire an overdrive
gearbox. They are probably a bit thin on the ground these days but well worth
the effort to find one. I secured one many years ago and I think it was the best
mod I ever made to my car. If you raise the rear end ratio, you'll also be
effecting first gear, which is quite high already when compared to other
versions. At the red line, the current ratios allow 40 mph in first, 60 in
second, 90 in third and 125 in top. With overdrive, it can theoretically do 150
though the most I've ever done is 135. Performance isn't effected
either but engine noise at highway speeds is reduced significantly.
Personally, I think you'd regret moving to a taller rear
end.
Just
my 2 cents worth.
Regards,
Paul
