Well,
well, well Larry. That's great news. There was I, figuring you'd have to scour
the country looking for one. Depending on how long it's been sitting around and
the condition it's in, it would probably be worth while having it reconditioned
before installation. In my case, I had to have the gearbox bearings replaced 6
months after installation and then last year I had to have the overdrive
bearings replaced. It would have saved a lot of effort and cost if I done that
up front.
In
order to install the M410, you'll have to shorten the prop shaft by around 30 cm
and come up with a modified rear mount. The Marcos modified top plate and gear
change extension will also need to be transferred. I'd also suggest
you get your hands on a Volvo 264 gear stick which has the overdrive switch in
the top. The trick is to cut the tops off both sticks and weld the top of
the 264 stick to the bottom of the 164 stick. It's a bit tricky getting the
wiring up the 164 stick because you'll have to notch the rubber bushes
inside and drill a hole in the top but it works, looks great and you
wouldn't have to have a separate overdrive switch on the dash, which is how the
164 accommodated it. The effort will be repaid in spades and you'll wonder
how you ever managed without it.
