Thanks for bringing this to the attention of the group, Donny. It gives me the opportunity to divest the results of my findings after I looked into the use of an overdrive gearbox with the B30 engine. The first one that because available to me was from the Volvo 144, a 4 cylinder sedan. I spoke with a number of people about the suitability of this combination and was told that that gearbox was substantially less resiliant than the M410 from the Volvo 164. I actually had the unit in my possession when I located a M410 and was able to compare the two. It was immediately apparent that the 144 gearbox/overdrive unit had a thinner drive shaft and the gearbox was smaller. I don't know what the actual overdrive unit was but the gearbox didn't look up to the job, especially on a Marcos. Based on what I found, I wouldn't recommend anyone using a 4 cylinder overdrive gearbox in the Volvo Marcos. I was at a local salvage yard which is getting ready to crush a 1980 Volvo (4 cylinder) with 78,000 miles. They want $300.00 for the gearbox complete from bellhousing to driveshaft flange, including shifter w/ overdrive switch. I don't know if this box fits any of the Volvo- powered Marcos cars, but I thought I would bring this to the groups attention in light of all the recent rear axle/transmission questions.
