RE: [MarcosManiacs] Re: Nose in the air... snobbish car???/ Adjustable shocks---OR???

2001-11-09 by Jeff Caraway

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the suggestion. I had considered raising the rear, but thought it might degrade the handling of the car.

It would definitely help with exhaust clearance though!

I’ll probably end up putting height adjustable shocks all around and find the best setting (whether it be lowering the front or raising the back).

I haven’t asked Rory about the bump-steer upgrade due to its expense, but might consider it more if I hear more about it.

Regarding the Triumph parts:

Yep, mine has the Triumph front suspension, steering, and brakes like most GTs. Mine differs in that it has the 14 inch alloy Mantula style wheels which supposedly required a custom hub. Rory says that the hub was specially built for those wheels, but I’m not sure what’s different.

Have a lop-sided car?? Well, provided the frame isn’t twisted or bent (let’s hope that isn’t the case!), it is probably due to sagging springs on the driver’s side. Since that side was probably used more, the springs may have gotten much more wear. I have seen this on some older (60s) domestic cars and the remedy is to replace the tired spring(s). Or, if you have adjustable shocks….

Anyone else have any suggestions???

PS---I measured my car and the front is ~ 1/4" lower than the rear
(from ground to sill by front/back wheel)BUT the drivers side is 1/2"
lower than the passenger side----any Ideas fellow Maniacs????
