Andy, I have the later uprated, engine with the lip seal arrangement. If I cannot find a pan, I am thinking about trying to modify my pan by raising the sump floor up and reducing the depth of the pick up tube. Problem is my welding skills are not up to the requirements. I'll keep you informed. Regarding your oil pan issue, there's probably no great solution for getting around the deep sump other than to go with a dry sump system which has a much shallower depth. I have a perfect spare pre-crossflow Cortina Mk1, powder-coated pan on the shelf (rope seal) but if your car is later 711M block crossflow then you have the later rear lip-seal and so my rope-seal pan would be of no use to you. Let me know which block you have. The Vintage Gold Cup Race is a perfect venue to re-introduce HOO144. During the race weekend VIR showcases some of the rare and special cars that are at the Gold Cup, and your car qualifies. I have spoken with Ken May, the director of events and promotions for VIR, he is always excited to hear about Marcos cars. I can contact him and let him know that there is going to be at least two Marcos cars at the Gold Cup this June. Considering how great it is that you have brought HOO144 back to racing status, as a group of Marcos Maniacs we need to support you and have as many Marcos cars possible at this event. VIR is a beautiful facility and is definitely a destination point for all sports and racing car enthusiasts. I live in SW Virginia and very close to VIR. I would be happy to help coordinate with members of the group that want to attend. Andy please keep us posted on your plans for the Gold Cup. Here's the SVRA 2009 race schedule: http://www.svra. com/SVRA/ SVRAHome. nsf/weblinks/ EJEN-7JZT5W? OpenDocument The reason lies in re-instating my competition license, which I can do to SVRA's satisfaction at the June event but would not have been able to accomplish prior to the Easter Weekend event at VIR as I originally planned. So... a slight delay but at least it's a feasible plan. I have not had any luck finding one here in SW Virginia and the one on the car has already been welded several times. I have procrastinated long enough and need to get the pan replaced as I am taking the car to VIR in April. Hay, Andy are you still planning on racing the gull wing at VIR, if so would you tell us your plans? Other Marcos owners that would like to gather at VIR let me know and I can see about getting some rooms in town. US models were offered from 1971 to 1975, and for 1976 to 1978, it was called a Capri ll (possibly RS in Europe?). I know the later ones used a 2.8 Cologne V6, and the earlier ones had a 1.6 four, or 2.6 V6. I don't know what rear axles were used, but assume the later ones would have the taller gears. With the wider rear axle, I assume you have flares at the rear of the wheel opening? -Donny ----- Original Message ----- From: Baufi-Fey@web. de To: MarcosManiacs@ yahoogroups. com Sent: Tuesday, March 03, 2009 5:30 AM Subject: Re: [MarcosManiacs] Looking for parts In UK you can buy the crown & pinion as well as different ratioŽs. My Marcos has a Ford Capri rear axle used in the Capris RS = wider than standard and 3.09 ratio. You find these rear axles from time to time in Ebay but normally without the Marcos brackets but these are easy to produce and weld to the rear axle. MHS offers as well the brackets. With the 3,09 ratio the stage II V8 has problems in 5th gear - as well fitted the LT77 from SDI with the long 5th gear - to run with full rpm, but it is great on the highways and you get a extrem low fuel consumption with nearly 9 ltr. /100 km cruising on the highway. By the way on long distance the engine is smooth and quiet. Made it in the last years four times to Le Mans in the Marcos = nearly 1.000 km to drive on the highways of Germany, Luxembourg & France. The Ford Capri rear axle was fitted as well by Marcos to the Volvo 3 ltr. engines and Ford Essex V6. Complete rear axle I had to pay 50 here in Germany plus transport & plus brackets and welding. It is also used in Morgan +8, and some Reliant Scimitars Does anyone know of any other applications, or where to source the internal parts affordably? -Donny ----- Original Message ----- From: larry meadows To: marcosmaniacs@yahoogroups.com Sent: Monday, March 02, 2009 6:10 PM Subject: [MarcosManiacs] Looking for parts Good day all, Is there anyone that has, or knows of, a Salisbury rear end with good crown and pinion gears that is for sale? I need the gears and spiders for my Marcos. The one I have, has badly rust pitted teeth and need to be replaced. I have a Ford (105E) rear that Donny Lang gave me to use while I am looking for replacememt gears. The ratio is 3.90:1, and that turns the engine a lot faster than I like for highway driving.
