Thanks for all the info, Adrian. I do not want to disassemble the unit that I have as it is on loan to me for dimensions and pattern. If I can help in any way, don’t hesitate to let me know. BTW, the glass is not standard thickness (about .125 th) and tempered on the later models. Check before using a standard window channel, it may be too wide to hold the glass. Nearest replacement I could find on eBay was 200mm long ( just under 8”). As I mentioned early my replacement spring is slightly weaker but plan to use a 3” long bolt to compress instead of the orginal 2” one. Will also make the tube shorter or the inserts longer at the end of the springs to compensate for the spring being just over 1/2” shorter than the orginal. I just plan to trace it out onto a bit of steel and then spend a bit of time with a grinder and sanding disks. As for the window channels I’ve bought a couple but none are as long as the originals but can’t see that being an issue. So long as the new lift channel is central so there is an equal amount of glass at the end of it I don’t think I will have a problem. The two different lift channels I bought were on eBay. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Beetle-Type-1-Window-Lift-Channel-873Vg0430-Front/301882320441?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 and https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Window-Lift-Channel-VW-Beetle-Offside-Right-1964-1967/283301741420?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 The second one is longer both have brackets that are no use but not an issue as I’m planning to cut off the brackets below the window channel anyway. As they are from a VW beetle you should be able to find them in the USA. Not sure how much you have disassembled the window lifter but there is a number of inserts and a bearing in the cam that needs to be manufactured. I own a small lathe so my plan for tomorrow was to make replacements for these. One thing I have just noticed is the springs I bought are not quite as strong. There is not much difference so just plan to get a slightly longer bolt compress the replacement spring more to compensate. Hi, I’m in a similar position to Greg as I’m missing one of my window lifters and the other is in extremely poor condition (pressed metal part is badly corroded). Plan to try and fabricate a replacement set soon as some replacement springs I ordered on eBay 4 weeks ago from China finally arrived in the post today. Will install the 16mm OD springs into the piece of tube, attach the window channnel to the tube with some metal brackets and then will just have the challenge of fabricating the arm that the spring acts against. Springs came from eBay and are 16mm OD and 200mm long https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/16mm-OD-Green-Heavy-Duty-Compression-Stamping-Mould-Die-Spring-8mm-ID-All-Sizes/283430128264?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=584449173757&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 Adrian Sent from Yahoo Mail for iPad On Wednesday, July 31, 2019, 11:32 am, Larry Meadows lmeadowsw@... Have considered molding it from KEVLAR or cutting, machining and welling the components. I am trying to recourse the spring at the present. Will keep you informed. Ah, Larry I wish I knew the answer. Frankly, I'm so frustrated that the otherwise fantastic car has begun to loose its attraction for me. It's been about 5 years in progress, and there is light at the end of the tunnel, but I'm almost ready to throw in the towel. It's a late '68 and totally stock. The restorer lost the glass on the right side, and the window lift mechanisms for both sides. Guessing the window shape won't change, but I don't know which shape to tell you. I do have the original frames.. But have yet to figure out how they mount. I'll try the early corvette lift mechanisms. Again, thanks for your help.
