New members/lurkers

2002-08-06 by mcaqmd

Hi all,

Noticed that we have 70+ members now with quite a few new ones!
Seems amazing as we only started a year ago.

For the new folks or for those who just lurk on the list, please
join us by letting us know if you have a Marcos; if so what
make/model,serial#,etc. If you don't own one, let us know what
you're looking for. Recently we found a wood chassis Marcos in our
own back yard here in northern California for $1500 US!

Personally I belong to the TVR, Cortina, Reliant-Scimitar, Zephyr-
Zodiac, and Capri lists just to get info on my Essex V6.

So come on and join us! The more discussion, the more I learn!

Regards,

Hi!

My name is Michael Hullevad, I live in Horsens, Denmark. I have just bought a Marcos 1600GT(with 1650 Chris Lawrence engine) frame number 5183, previously owned by Pete Buckle, Calne, GB.
It is to get a Volvo b20 engine (steel crank and all) producing 185hp, I think it will be great fun!

                                  Regards

                                     Mike

Welcome Mike!
Lee Brinkley in England has an original Lawrence-tuned car but has replaced the engine with a 1600 Crossflow. Mike Denman (US) has a highly tuned B20 (maybe B-22 now?) in his 1966 Marcos.
Lots of other folks with plenty of info and advice on the list. If you haven't already, check out the Marcos Maniacs site "registry" at www.greyraven.tzo.com/marcosmaniacs Love to have your car on it! Contact Jeff.

Hi Don!
All I know about the Lawrence tuned engine is that it is a 4 banger. Do You know what went in to it. Reason: I am buying a Turner MK.3 (ford) with a bum engine. If I can use the one from the Marcos, it will help getting things done. The old Ford engines are hard to come by now a days!

Michael,

The Marcos Coupes and Spyders book says the Lawrencetune cars had
1650cc displacement, a hotter cam, and the Tecalemit Jackson fuel
injection system. Also had a Hewland 5-speed gearbox in its standard
Cortina gearbox casing. The Hewland gears did not have synchros so
shifting took a little work. Had a rev limit of 9000RPM!!

I know that Chris Lawrence also did the motors for some special
Morgans.

That's about all the info I know. I've only seen one Turner in my
life!

Re Chris Lawrence.

He's now (I think the title's correct) production manager at Morgan.
He's the man behind the boss-eyed Aero 8 seen at Le Mans this year.

Cheers.

Mark
