I have a perfectly good Marcos GT (well it will be when I've finished
restoring it!!) which dates from 1968.
Is it because it's a wooden chassis 1600 that we aren't considered
for this questionnaire???

Dear Paul,

No sir; I have no qualm with the original wood-frame Marcos GT [in fact, from
my understanding, it is lighter than the steel frame and therefore quicker
with equivalent motor size than a steel framed of the same year/model].

The reason for leaving out all other vehicles are as follows:

1. I visited the Marcos factory when it was still located at
Stratford-On-Avon prior to their relocating to Wiltshire. This was in 1969.

2. I had saved, for two years, to purchase a new 1969 Marcos GT while in the
U.S.A.F. and subsequently, in that year, I learned that, due to circumstances
beyond my control, the money that I had saved was spent by my family members
back in the U.S.A. without my knowledge.

3. That was 33 years ago, Paul. Because of those circumstances I was denied
from fulfilling those plans to obtain my dream car.

4. Now I am 59 years of age and before I die I want to realize my failed
dream and obtain a 1969 or subsequent year model Marcos GT.

5. The Marcos GT can not be exported from Britain, even today, unless it is
pre-1974.

6. I would love dearly to be able to purchase the very last 1969 Marcos GT
woodframe from Hayes Harris at Wire Wheels in Vero Beach, Florida (reference:
Marcos Maniacs) but I seem to have insulted him by expressing my exasperation
and frustration with regard to trying to do business with him over these past
several weeks by way of email.

Therefore, I have no problem with a Marcos GT woodframe but I do have certain
criteria regarding what I want in such a car.

I need my GT to be quite quick. I am looking for performance, preferably with
a 4-speed incorporating electric overdrive or a 5-speed capable of at least
125 mph top end and no less than 0-60 mph in 7.5 or less seconds.

Are you interested in selling your car, Paul? If so, does it meet those
minimum requirements?

I do hope and trust that my providing my views concerning my needs for
purchasing a Marcos GT does not insult you. Heck, I would also seriously
consider an ancient 1965 or so Lotus Elite or a lovely little Ginetta!

But the Marcos GT is what I've had my heart and soul set on for 33 years now
...even over a Jaguar XKE Coupe (which I test drove back in 1969 but still
decided on the Marcos GT).

With best regards, I am,

Most sincerely,

Robert D. Boyd
