weatherstripping

2002-12-14 by dave barton <dbarton62@yahoo.ca>

Hi All,
What was the origin of the weatherstripping for the door window
seals and the door to bodyshell seals for the
69's....................I think a modern bubble
type seal will work on the door to body seal.......also where would I
find a supplier of a wiring harness from the firewall forward...I can
make up the rear harness myself by copying what I have.......would a
universal harness like those offered by Painless Wiring and others
work as long as there were enough circuits.....also where did we end
up in the front window search.....I will be going to Fla. in March
(hopefully) and will be bringing back a rear plexi screen from
Wirewheel. Is that an option ,to possibly get Wirewheel to import
the front screens for us (just a thought)
O.K. thats enough questions for now
 Cheers Dave #5577

Hello Dave
Do you mean the seal around the door, that the door closes on to. If so the early cars had a neoprene D shaped strip glued to the body, with the radius pointing in. There are lots of stockists for this. But I did get mine from Rory at Marcos heritage. Do you mean the weather strip for the glass in the doors, that the glass slides up and down in? If you do then this on the early cars was a fibre material and not rubber. I got mine from a Caravan / ;Camper window manufacturer, and was able to purchase the exact size. The wiring harness I have always believed where Triumph Spitfire/ Herald or some thing like that. But I don't know that for sure.
I don't how ever think there would be a problem using a Triumph part and on the plus side they may be even cheap enough to cut the front part off if you so wish.
I hope that I have been of some little help.
Regards Jac.

Dave,

Mine has the bubble type around the door opening that looks like it
could be purchased almost anywhere. JC Whitney has an excellent
selection. The side window outside window "wiper" seal is from a
Triumph Spitfire. Cut to fit. Is there an inside seal for the side
windows??? Don't have any on mine.

Can't help on the wiring altho there isn't that much to it. If
you're using an alternator you do away with 3 or 4 wires also.
