steering column controls

steering column controls

2003-01-03 by pricklepus <pricklepus@yahoo.co.uk>

Hello, this is my first posting, so a big hello to everyone. My car
is a 1985 Ford 2.8 V6 with a newly restored and galvanised chassis.
I'm currently looking to improve the interior and wondered if anyone
has fitted more modern steering column controls? I would like to get
the wiper and lighting controls onto the steering column, preferably
without obstructing the speedo too much. I remember seeing a Mantula
Spyder in a garage once with just such controls, so any help on what
might be compatible(without too much modification) would be much
appreciated.
many thanks, Nick.

Nick,

Welcome aboard!

I'm not too up to date on the newer cars. Where are the controls
now? On the dash? What Model do you have? My 1971 3 Litre has the
Triumph steering column with the lights and turn signal stalks
(although backward for us USA folks on a RHD car)on the column.
Mike Denman has even put his overdrive switch on the steering column
I believe. Mike??

Rory at Heritage Spares may also be able to help.

thanks don,
my car is a 1985 kit and also has the triumph
steering column. it had the same stalks as yours about
2years ago before the restoration began, but they seem
to have gone missing now! are all your light controls
on the column or just the main beam?and do you have a
main beam flasher or just on and off?

Re: steering column controls

Nick,

My main light switch is a rocker on the dash. The instrument light
switch is also a rocker on the dash. The stalk on the column has
three positions (off, high beam, and low beam). By pulling (or maybe
pushing) the stalk, the high beams flash (dip?). You know what I
mean. The main switch on the dash has to be on for the lights to
operate. When the main switch is on and the stalk is in the off
position, the rear lights and "parking" lights in the front are on.
Mine is a RHD so the light stalk is on the left side and the turn
signals are on the right side of the column.

Isn't that nice and clear??

My Marcos had a switch which I recall as the same as the 1967 Triumph
GT6 I had years ago. Toggle on the dash with a stock that when off,
low, high with a flash by pulling it towards you.
