"A Small Matter"

"A Small Matter"

2003-01-27 by sveltebat <sveltebat@aol.com>

Dear Fellow Marcos Maniac Associates,

Please give me your opinion about something that I have heard once or
twice.

It has been said that some little folk might have a problem driving a
Marcos GT because of their height, or lack thereof.

What have any of you experienced or heard about this almost
unforgivable rumor?

It's all relative, I suspect, as to what "short" is or is not
considered to be.

Therefore, I am requesting a ruler or guage thing here from
contributors to this posting subject.

I'm a big bat but in human measurement standards I'm considered to be
somewhat diminitive, I suppose.

Any and all input would be appreciated. Perhaps one of you have a
Marcos Slide Rule for guaging the range of the foot controls!

Thank You in Advance, I am ...

Svelte

The Marcos has a dial to pull the pedals to and from the driver. If you are short, you won't be able to see past the bonnet (go to Denny's and get a booster seat, ha, ha). If you are too tall, you may also have a problem with the GT.

Dear Hal,

I can always rely upon you to reply, being the avid Marcos Maniac Associate that you are!

Thank You for that, Hal. I appreciate it.

However, I am still looking for specifications!

Let's say that I'm a bat with an overall height of 5 foot 6 inches (I've shrunk somewhat over these past 10 years from 5 foot 7 1/2 inches, unfortunately). Give it time and you too might have to purchase a Marcos booster or sell yours to me along with the booster.

My question, thus restated for the hard of reading is, what are the Marcos control ranges?

You know, like is it from 5 foot 8 inches to 6 foot 8 inches? Who has a Marcos Control Range Guage?

Am I too short a bat?

Lovingly,

Svelte

Thanks for the chuckle....I'm only 5' 8" and the pedals dial right in and the only sight problems are the immense blind spots created by the Marcos body shape. As far as actual height ranges, I don't have them.

In the Motor Road Test of 1969 on the "3 litre Fireball" or the
Essex V6 powered Marcos there is a picture of the "supplementary
cushion that would be required by those under 5' 8"".

Wow, something happened and that last message posted itself.

The rest of the story: In the article it states "A feature on the
Marcos has always been its fixed seat; a shaped supplementary cushion
can be used to give extra height and a slightly less reclining back,
but the only built-in adjustment are the pedals and the steering
column. On the latest models (1969) the seat has been raised
slightly and none of us above 5' 8" needed the cushion....."

I'm about 5'9" and can adjust the pedals to suit me but I'm almost at
the end of the adjustment.

Re: [MarcosManiacs] "A Small Matter"

Hello svelt
I am a very tall 5' 6" chap, and with the pedals adjusted to their Max' forward position it was a little bit of a struggle. So I removed the peddles cut off the foot and welded in a three inch extension. This allows me to adjust the peddle forward as well as back to get the position just right for me. In my opinion a booster seat is not the answer because you also need your arms to be straight to drive a Marcos properly. (that should bring in some comments) See how you go regards Jac.
