New Marcos book

New Marcos book

2001-09-23 by Mike Denman

There is a new or at least updated book on Marcos cars. Here is the
description from an ebay auction I won.
THIS IS A NEW BROOKLANDS BOOK. GOLD PORTFOLIO 1960-1997 COVERS ROAD
AND COMPARISON TESTS, TECHNICAL
DATA,MODEL UPDATES,SPECS,HISTORY,SALON,GT,850,1600,1800,3.0
V6,LM500,MANTIS,MANTULA,MANTARA.172
PAGES.
It appears to be an updated version of their old book, Marcos Cars
1960-1988 which was a great reference book since it is comprised of
the original road tests from various periodicals with lots of pictures
etc. Well worth having if you own a Marcos. I paid $15 plus $5 for
shipping etc. for the new book on Ebay. This is about what I would
suspect it would cost from a regular book merchant.

Hey Mike,

Congrats on winning the auction. I saw that item as well, but wasn't
going to bid against a fellow "Maniac"! I've seen the book retail for
$24.95 so you did well.

Regards,
Tad

To All
Thats the "book"(softcover) I used to educate myself on the Marcos
Marque before I bought mine this past Feb. It is a great resource
with many British articles with their sense of humour. One of the
tests said that getting in was like putting a cushion on the floor
under your dining room table, and trying to sit on it! I also
recommend it as well. I also own "Marcos The Story of a Great British
Sportscar" which I got from Marcos Heritage Spares and it's even
autographed by Jem Marsh. http://www.marcosheritagespares.com/
or
www.rory.uk.com/marcos
I recommend that as well.
Does anyone else have any other books about Marcos?

Re: New Marcos book

The other "Marcos" book is actually about Frank Costin. Frank
Costin was one of the original designers of the Marcos Cars and
contributes the COS portion of his last name to the name MarCOS.
The title of the book is "Flying on Four Wheels, Frank Costin and
his car designs" by Dennis E. Ortenburger. The original books are
very hard to find but I believe it has been recently reprinted. I was
lucky enough to meet the author at a British Car show in Pacfic Grove,
California in 1998. He saw my Marcos and came over to talk to me. I
mentioned I was looking for a copy of his book and he sent me an
autographed copy the next week. The book is well written, interesting,
and has a full chapter on Frank's involvement with marcos cars.
