January "Car of the Month"

January "Car of the Month"

2004-01-04 by Don Lattimer

Hi all,

Happy New Year and best wishes for a great year!

January's COM is Paul Weidner's 1984 2.8L. Paul is in Minnesota.

I'm sitting looking out at 4 inches of snow here in sunny California
with more expected tonite.

Replacing my valve stem seals and can't find replacements. Burton
Power in the UK has them but I would like to find something here in
the US. Any ideas? It's a Ford Essex V6.

Hi Don
Happy New Year to you also
Although not in the States there is a place I deal with up here in Canada called "Special Interest Cars" in Oakville Ontario.......their phone # is 519-844-8063.......ask for Max ,he is not usually there until after 5PM. He is somewhat of an authority on Brit cars and has a good inventory of parts.

Happy New Year Don,

I was surprised to hear you are looking at snow. A bit strange for your neck of the woods. I am looking at six foot snow berms all around my driveway and I am running out of room to stack more of the stuff.
I am also looking for a small part for my Ford Essex V-6. It is a small plastic 3-way fitting that the fuel line from the tank goes into, then branches off to the carb, and the third bit of it going back to the fuel tank through the return line. This plastic fitting has collasped and is restricting the fuel flow to the carb. Any ideas of where something like that can be found?

Thanks, and best wishes for 2004!

Rick,
I don't have that return line. Mine was imported from the UK and maybe didn't require it. I'm sure any NAPA store would have something that would work.

Rick,
I think I have what you need but it is in Florida and I am in Atlanta. I
have just returned from an extensive road trip and have to pick up a car in
Virginia to take back to Florida. Can you wait for a week or two?

Garry,

Waiting is no problem. I was able to modify the original one that collasped but would still like to pick up a new one if possible. Just let me know what works for you.

Thank you,
