Thanks,

Don,

There are 3 thru bolts that secure the retaining bracket for the tank to the forward bulkhead of the boot near the center of the boot. The nuts are self locking, and on the differintial side, so they have to be held all the way out. Best to have someone help you.
If you need a new tank, I have a fabrication shop that I use that has made one for Hal in
Colorado. It cost about $225 including UPS ground. This reflects the rise in steel since I had Hals' made. Or I can send you the Fab. drawings and you can have it made out there.

Regards.
Larry

Don,
As it turns out I did not need the tank that Larry made me. When I
bought the '66 last year the tank in that one was used as I had to get a fuel
cell so I can race not to screw Larry, but the one he made me hasn't been used
and if Larry wouldn't be offended I could sell it to you.

Hello Don,

There are 2 mounting screws that go through to the front side of the trunk which can be accessed by jacking the car up, removing one of the rear wheels, and then getting to the 2 nuts in the rear end tunnel. I put a pair of vise scrips on the nuts and then turn the bolts that are located under the gas tank inside the trunk, out. Then just take both fuel lines off the top of the tank, disconect the wires for the sending unit, and it is ready to be removed. The tank looks like a big V when removed as one of the body supports runs down through the center of it. The tank actually goes all the way to the back side of the seats.
Permatex makes a gas tank repair kit that you can get at most auto parts stores. It contains a 2 part chemical and a piece of fibreglass material. Simply locate the leak, mix both chemicals together, apply the matting, and cover it all with the chemical. It sets up real hard in about 3 minutes so be quick with your application. I just removed my tank last night to drain it for the winter and the hole process only took me 20 minutes so it is no big deal. I have also used the Permatex to fix 3 of my motorcycle tanks and it has held up real well.

Good luck,

Rick Harding

I'll be pulling the tank this weekend and I'll determine if I need a new one or just a repair. Got home yesterday to find the floor of my garage half covered with gas. Thankfully it was a nice warm day and the heater didn't click on or I would've been SOL!
Thanks for the offer Hal. I'll let you know. What fuel cell did you get? Does it fit in original opening? Capacity? Custom made? $$ ?
Thanks,
Don

Larry here,
I made an exact copy of the origional factory tank but 'cept they used 16 ga. material rather than 18 ga. as origional. adds some weight, but will last a lot longer.

Yes, thanks. Looks like an easy repair but I just had some abdominal surgery and can hardly walk. At this point it appears to be a simple patch job. The tank itself is in good shape but someone had patched a hole previously and didn't do a very good job.
