Marcos ground clearance and shipping

Marcos ground clearance and shipping

2005-02-25 by citdrd

Hello all,

Does anyone know the ground clearance of a Volvo Marcos?
Any experiences with shipping via a commercial transporter?
I have a concern with ground clearance with the open transporter and
was wondering if any members used this method.

I am considering purchasing another Marcos. If anyone is considering
selling, please contact me directly at citdrd@....

I have been watching this list for a while and appreciate the wealth
of knowledge the members provide...thanks Dale

Hey Dale,

Long time, no hear! Do you still have the V6? Still in Chicago?

Depending on the suspension settings, I would say ground clearance
is anywhere from 4" to 6". The oil pan is the problem on mine with
the Essex V6 but not sure about the Volvo. I know Dan from Fl. had
his shipped from Portland, OR to Florida on a transporter.

Don,

Thanks for the fast reply and info. Yes, it has been a long time.
I am still in Chicago, But the Marcos V6 is down in my garage in
Coral Springs FL. It is still awaiting restoration.
I met Hayes Harris this past weekend at a British car fest in Lake
Worth Florida. He's a great down to earth guy with vast knowledge of
British cars.
Don,I really appreciate all the work you put into this site.

Dale,
Come to think of it, Hayes would be the guy to talk to about transport. He ships them in and out from all over the world.

Hi Dale,

The ground clearance on the 3 litre Volvo Marcos should be around 4" - 4
1/2", with the bottom of the clutch slave cylinder being the lowest point
followed closely by the bottom of the oil sump. If the car is set any higher
on adjustable shocks, it doesn't look right and wouldn't handle as well. If
you're planning on using an open transporter, you must be very careful to
ensure that the clutch slave cylinder doesn't snag on anything, especially
if the car is moving backwards. If the clutch snags, the section of the bell
housing (which is made of aluminum) to which it is attached will break off
and fixing it is an engine out procedure. Believe me, I've been there, done
that.

Hi Dale,
If you need any parts for your 3LTR I am the official Marcos parts guy
for the US and Canada. Also I ship cars around the US. I will be going to
Elkhart Lake in June and have room, and will pass through Chicargo.
