Shipping Marcos race car from Japan to U.S.

2005-06-04 by Andy&Alison Seward

Well, I've gone & done it: I (re) purchased my old race car, 1962 Marcos GT
"Luton Gullwing" chassis #2006 from its current owner in Japan. This is the
ex-Stephen Minoprio car that won class honors in the 1962 Autosport
championship. I owned this car and raced it in Europe from 1994-1997.
Never should have sold it. Took me 2 years to track it down.

Now I need to transport it from Japan to the USA West Coast.

I would appreciate any advice regarding a shipping agent or transport
company to ship # 2006 from Japan to San Francisco (preferred), San Diego,
or Long Beach. For safety reasons, I want to ship in a container rather than
Roll On-Roll Off (RORO) shipping.

I know its a long shot, but I'd deeply appreciate any leads or suggestions.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Best Regards,
Andy Seward

An dy,

Well done! I raced with Tim at the Nurburgring 500 km race in 1962. My
car was the earlier model (ugly duckling). I have been trying to trace
mine also. It was last seen advertised in Road and Track in California
in 1972. It was re-register 80 SNK

You are obviously good at tracking these cars down and it is a long shot
but maybe you have come across it.

Andy
I've never shipped a Marcos, but a lot of my friends have shipped cars to and from Hawaii, they all shipped them in a container. A shipping company drops the container off (they fill it) the shipping company picks it up and it gets dropped off at the address at the other end. I' sure there must be a company in Japan that can take care of the details (insurance, strapping the car down, etc.).
If I can help on the San Francisco end let me know! Good luck!!
Thanks

Andy,

Congratulations,

I can recommend "The RJJ Group" ( www.rjjfreight.co.uk ) out of the UK
they did a very good job of arranging pick-up placing the car in a
container etc. They also ship from the Japan to the US. Another outfit
is Peters & May ( www.petersandmay.com ) have a extremely good
reputation, however, they are a little more expensive.

Hope this helps,

Paul Stevens

Thank you, Paul! Much appreciated. I'd actually already seen the RJJ Group
website, but I didn't know of Peters & May. I'll check them out.

I'm very excited at the prospect of the reunion with my old racing warhorse!

Best Regards,
Andy
