Spax shocks or others...

Spax shocks or others...

2005-12-02 by Hampton Peterson

Hi everyone,
It's time for new shock absorbers (as at least one has completely
leaked out). I have the original adjustable Spax at this time but
have had little luck finding replacements. The Koni catalogs back to
the 1960's do not list the Marcos so......any ideas? I would rather
keep the car as original as possible so Spax is still my first choice.
The numbers on the shock are 358 EH 308 (front) and 359 EH 325 (rear).
Any help would be appreciated.

Hampton,

I put AVO shocks on mine a few years back. They've been great. They
are adjustable for both ride height and damping. Get new springs
while you're at it. It's worth the money!!

There has been much discussion regarding shocks on the Marcos
Enthusiasts Message board:

http://p206.ezboard.com/bmarcossportscarenthusiasts

Do a search. Some don't like the AVOs and others like Koni, etc.

Come to think of it, do a search on this board for shocks also!

Hampton,

Go to the main page and search for message #1994. Classic Garage in
NY has SPAX.

Hi Hampton,

I also installed AVO shocks and springs on my 3 Litre Volvo. I concur with
Don regarding performance and springs. If you order springs, make it VERY
CLEAR that they have to be 12" long. They substituted different length (9"
and 10") springs when I ordered mine and they were insistent that they were
the correct ones. I eventually got them to send 12" ones but the project was
delayed a few week while I sorted it out.

Hi Everyone,
i use Carrera shocks with adjustable seats and 10" springs. They are

RE: [MarcosManiacs] Re: Spax shocks or others...

2005-12-02 by Dransfield, Paul

Maybe the design of the Carrera shock is such that a shorter spring is an
option. With AVO shocks, the spring seat has to be raised almost to the
maximum with the 10" spring to provide sufficient ground clearance. The 9"
spring wouldn't work at all.

Paul,
The carrera have ajdustable seats which allow you to change the ride
height and ,if your racing change the corner weights. You also have the
option of a greater selection of springs.
