engine alternatives to Volvo 6 cyl.
2007-09-15 by Robert Moreno
Hello Rob
I had a customer that transplanted a 300ZX engine into a late 70's Datsun 510. (it Worked!) but he said he would Never do it again. He suggested I consider installing a straight 6 from a BMW that sits leaned over at about 30 degrees and had fuel injection and a aluminum head. Even as a experienced Auto Restorer, I saw that as a hugh task. Have you done the usual stuff like a compression test, ignition test, ect? That may make a engine run "rough". I believe the chassis that receives the Rover V-8 unit comes with addionial frame bracing. Keep in mind, that with more power, perhaps more weight balance up front, you will need better brakes, parts may fatigue faster, ect.
I agree with the other input from the group that you should consider updating the bulletproof Volvo unit. All the parts you will need are available. Seek input from Phil Singher the editor at VCLASSICS.COM for upgrades...(Great article about Mike Denman's 1800 car on the same site).
Best of luck,

Subject: [MarcosManiacs] engine alternatives
I recently purchased a 1970 marcos 3 ltr steel chassis which is in
need of some mechanical TLC. It runs, but very roughly. My
preliminary research indicates that it may cost as much to
restore/rebuild the volvo unit as it would to update/swap in a newer
engine. Has anyone in the US put a newer engine/drivetrain into their
marcos with success and could offer advice? What US spec engines fit
the marcos chassis? Advice/Info is greatly appreciated.
