V6/Pertronix Ignitor

V6/Pertronix Ignitor

2001-11-15 by Don Lattimer

Eureka!!
I've finally found the part # for the Pertronix Ignitor kit that
fits the Ford Essex V6. Thanks to a gentleman on the usa-tvr list
(Mike Akrigg). And now........the number is...#1264. That is a
Pertronix number. I called them to discuss purchase and was advised
that it was only available from overseas but....... he gave me a name
of a company in Colorado that will special order it for me.

I'll call the company to order one and inquire if they will do
special orders on a regular basis. Maybe the V6 owners could order a
bunch at a time. Which brings up a question: How many of us are
Essex V6 owners?? And how many of those are interested in the
Pertronix kit?

Don,

Forgive my ignorance, but what is a Pertronix Ignitor?

Sorry about that! Pertronix Ignitor is a solid-state electronic
ignition system that fits under the distributor cap and replaces the
points. Lumenition makes something about the same. The Pertronix
doesn't have any module outside the distributor that has to be
mounted like the Lumenition. Price is about $100 depending on the
application. Along with a good coil and plug wires there is an
increase in both performance and fuel mileage. Plugs last longer and
the gap can be set wider for a better spark, etc.

I had one in my Jensen for 10 years, never had a problem. If it does
fail, you can easily re-install the points and be on your way.

I would assume so Jeff. That engine is still used in the Ford Ranger
and was used in the Taurus. Go to www.pertronix.com and get their
phone #. You'll need to tell them your distributor mfg. and model #
(stamped in body of distributor).

Or: www.vintageperformance.com/retrorockets/pertronixconversions.htm

Just to make sure tho, I'd call.
