Real glass Rear Window

Real glass Rear Window

2010-04-25 by marcostvrtr3

I have, perhaps, the only real glass, rear window for a Marcos in the USA. I bought the rear window from the Marcos club in the UK. I don't know if they are still selling/making them or not. I was told that the glass windows were expensive because the sharp curvature on the ends resulted in a large number of these rear screens being broke during the manufacture. Regardless, I have a glass rear window on my 1966 Marcos 1800 GT that I am thinking about selling. I was told that this rear window fit all of the Marcos cars from 1963 up through the 1970's and perhaps beyond. I am going to make my Marcos into a vintage race car and I am going back to a plexiglass rear window to reduce the weight. Email me at mikedenman@... if you have any interest.

Give us a price.
I would like to have one as a pattern for a mold to make the perplex rear screens. I had a glass one in the early 70's that is in a car in Michigan, but lost the mold in a move and haven't been able to get in touch with the owner af the car.

Larry

Larry,

I have a glass Marcos rear window, however the problem is that it does not
fit the aperture on the early cars as quality control was poor.

Both the glass and Perspex windows are available in the UK.

I ended up having to fit a Perspex one in my car.

Hi Guys

I’ve been reading about the rear screen enquiries as I’m the one who bought the 1970 car from Hayes Harris at Wire Wheel Sportscars – and she needs a new rear screen...

Rory at Marcos Heritage in the UK is listing new perspex (plexiglass?) rear screens for £95 each, with the screen rubber at an additional £15.

www.rory.uk.com

Seems easier than trying to get them made somewhere else…

Hope this helps.

Richard

There are a lot more glass rear screens on coupes than most people are aware of. A few of the cars up here in Canada, including mine, have glass rear screens which are significantly clearer than the plexiglass variety. I switched out my plexiglass screen back in the early 80s and was amazed at the increased rear vision clarity. There were a LOT of problems with them due to the severe curvature at the sides and they were easily broken during fitting if not done properly. They used to be available from the Marcos Owners Club but I'm not sure if the club even exists any more. I haven't heard anything about them for quite some time.

Good day, John,

I am looking for a glass one to use as a plug to make a new mold. I restored a 1971 Marcos that had a glass rear screen that fit very well and the plexi ones I made fit the '80 series cars that imported as kit cars. I think that all the Volvo powered cars had glass for the U.S imports because of DOT regulations requiring tempered glass in vehicles for road use.
My car had been totaled when I bought it an the roof, front and rear screens were missing, so I made Plexi for both out of necessity at the time. I later purchased the glass front, but still use the plexi rear.
Best regards,
Larry

Hi Hal,
I need the details for the Marcos T-shirt(s)you want.... size, color, quantity etc. as i am making up the final order.
I have ordered a Plexiglass rear window from Aircraft Windshield company and the cost was $431 plus shipping so it was not cheap... on the other hand, they have a mold and have a reputation for producing quality distortion free windows. My window is due in next week as they have a quick turnaround. I will let you know how it turns out. I asked them to make mine oversize (as in not trimming it back to the original line since my original window had been trimmed too much and had gaps in the sharp corners as a result). My glass window is for sale for $400 plus shipping. This is a lot less than I paid for it from the UK. and less than I am paying for a plexiglass rear window. Let me know if you have any interest.

Give us a price.
I would lik e to have one as a pattern for a mold to make the perplex rear screens. I had a glass one in the early 70's that is in a car in Michigan, but lost the mold in a move and haven't been able to get in touch with the owner af the car.

Larry,
Your timing is good... I just got the plexiglass rear screen so I have a cardboard box that the glass window will fit in. I will probably make another box to go around the cardboard box so it has two boxes worth of protection plus additional padding in between. Let me box the window up and see how much the shipping is going to be to your location. Please email me the address you want the window shipped to so I can get an exact amount for the shipping charges.
