Mini Marcos deconversion

2011-05-17 by Robin

Dear Marcos Group:

I bought the red mini marcos series 3 with the honda mid engine conversion.

I drove it last weekend and the chain broke....
I do not really like driving it as it is way too loud.
The fire wall blocks the rear view which makes driving in traffic a leap of faith that someone will not run you over as you cant see out.
The bottom of the rear of the car was cut out for the coversion.
And frankly most of the fabrication work was poorly done and kind of a hack job.

I am thinking about putting it back to stock.
I am looking for a door mini. It seems cheaper than buying all the parts I need.
I found a very trick mini motor for a good price.
The fiberglass repair is going to be the hardest part.
It will be alot of work but I think it's the right thing to do.
I have a few scary fast cars already so having one less would be OK...

Does anyone have a mini marcos that might be a source of inside and back of car photos?

Regards
Robin

Your car is a Mk.IV. I currently have a bare shell under restoration
and can gladly take some photos. It's best if you join the Mini Marcos
Forum (http://www.minimarcos.org/forum/) where there'll be lots of
help available, not least from our fibreglass expert and "Complete
Kitcar" contributor, John Dickens.

If you want to post to the forum just let me know and I'll register
you. Guest registrations are currently disabled because of spamming
from Russia.

There are also some Japanese sites with copious photos of shell
restorations.

It will be good to see DH8334 returned to its original state!

Hi Richard:

1) Thanks for the comments.

2) yes I would like to join the mini marcos forum.

3) I have worked with fiberglass before having made light weight hoods,
fenders, bumpers and boat repairs.
If I can make a mold that is the correct shape I should be able to fill the
hole and make it structurally sound again.
I will need to get the rear subframe bolted in to check for clearences.
Too bad I don't have a marcos near by to make a mold from....

4) I am hoping to get the donor car and start on the project mid summer. I
found a Series A hot rod engine for seems like a good price.

Regards
Robin
