Wooden chassis Essex V6 car

This looks interesting. I've already got a wooden Essex V6 car and is my favourite of the classis Marcos's but would be tempted to pick this one up to restore. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rare-wooden-bodied-Marcos-GT-V6-3100cc-/170744871333?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item27c12ff9a5 I notice the wheels sticking out of the wheelarches - is that anything to worry about? The seller says it's a none standard axle but that just looks wrong. How easy would it be to narrow an axle? I wouldn't want to flare the arches.
