Shock and Spring options?

Shock and Spring options?

2014-06-05 by madoubet@...

Looking for new options of shocks and springs for the 3L GT with a solid rear axle?
It is time as I am tired of it hitting bottom all the time in the rear. Since I am in the US I would like to see if any options are easily available on this side of the pond. I am and have considered the AVO's but want to make the
best choice. Adjustable platforms would be best for road height adjustments.
Thanks for replies
Mark

I have an 85 Mantula 3.5 V* that came with 250# springs up front and 170# in the rear with old shocks (rode like a stock car...very stiff) so I bought the 10 way adjustable shocks from rory and 130# springs for the read. Front settings at 7 clicks and the rear at 5 and it rides very nice..never bottoms out.

Mark,
What chassis do you have (early wood, '70s steel or '80's steel)?

Larry

I would contact Rory at MARCOS HERATIGE for the correct ones, I use the dampers that he has on the steel frame cars but have to make a slight mod on the rear mounts of the 1970 rear .

Mike
Thanks for your info.

Larry
It is a 69 wood chassis.

Mike,

I have been using AVO PE529 w/12"x180# front and PE951 w/12"x170# rear on my '67 wood chassis for the past 7 years with good results. You may have to preload the rear springs 2" or so and the shock is ride adjustable for stiffness with a turn of the dial. The price is also reasonable.

Dave,

No problem, so AVO shocks and springs. Is your car a 1600 then? Mine is 3L and would be a fair amount
heavier in the front so I would up the spring rate somewhere between yours and Mike which is a V8.
I have AVO's on an early Elan and they work really well.
