Hey Group ,
On the subject of rads , my car did not have a rad when I
bought it... what did the straight 6 Volvo's and V6 Fords use for a
rad.
It will give me some idea of size and capacity I need.

Hi Dave ; On my 3liter Volvo the radiator sits just foreward of the most forward lateral frame members ,it is about 22'' wide ,19.75 high 2.75 thick with two studs centered 14''apart on top and16.25 on the bottum,it also hase about a 2'' slope at both upper corners to adoid contact with the hood . if I had my way the slope would be a little greater as it is quite a tight fit ,also it does not have a place for a cap just an outlet at the upper left and an inlet at the lower right both of these face aft ,of corse. The cap is on a nicely made can just behind the radiator.Sorry that I dont' have a digital camera or I would send you a picture ar two of the set up .Oh yeah and the radiator on mine came with a fiberglass shroud that I did not see on any of the three other at the meeting with British Car mag . If you hae any more questions please ask and if you want some photos I will send them by snail mail .I bet that Paul Dransfield can help you on this he has his car for a good long while and has helped me in the past Mark 5957

Hi Dave, Mark has given a good description of the radiator fitted to the 3 litre Volvos, though mine is slightly different. What else is new? Mine doesn't have any slope to clear the hood and I suspect it's positioned lower than other cars, but the dimensions are probably the same. Certainly there is ample clearance from the hood. The bottom sits on a metal platform which is lower than the other transverse chassis members. If you look closely at the photo of my car on the website, you can see the bottom of the rad. Looking under the car from the front, you can see quite a large portion of the radiator sticking down and its the one thing that detracts from the car's good looks. I've often thought about building a fiberglass shroud to disguise it but it's never been a priority. Mine also didn't come with a shroud. As Mark said, the radiator is like a big tank, with the pressure cap on a separate tank made from what appears to be a piece of metal pipe about 4" in diameter and about 9" long with round plates welded on the ends. The radiator is so big that I've rarely had any problems from overheating, except when stuck in heavy traffic on a hot day for long periods of time. I have an electric fan fitted and the only time it comes on is when I'm stuck in heavy traffic. I recall someone telling me that it was a modified Jaguar rad though I haven't a clue about the model of car it's from. Your best bet is to call Rory McMath in England. He'll be able to tell you anything you need to know off the top of his head. By the way, the V6 Fords had a completely different setup from the Volvos. The rads were much smaller and, on the few V6's I've seen, they sloped backwards because they were relatively tall and were fitted behind the front crossmember in the engine bay. The rad for the Volvos was positioned so far forward because the engine is quite long as opposed to the V6, which is more compact. Regards, Paul Dransfield 3 litre Volvo

Hey Group,
Thanks for the input .....I am going to have an aluminum rad
built for the car and the sizes and descriptions have been very
helpful..........
On a totally different subject I wrote a while ago about an old
"The Saint" episode that featured a Marcos GT...since then I have
tried to watch (either taped or at time of running) every episode that
is on.....last night's episode was called "World Beater" it featured
2 Marcii and a TVR Grantura ( another small production brit 2 seater)
........the first Marcos was white with blue stripes and red
interior . It got rapped around a tree . The second was royal blue
with black interior. The TVR (another brit car I would like to own)
was bright yellow with a black interior. There was at least 5 solid
minutes of the 3 cars racing in a supposed around England rally.
