squarlly under accelleration

squarlly under accelleration

2014-08-11 by larry meadows

Can anyone tell me what would cause the front end to be so squarelly on accellation?
I have 3 cars here, and 2 of them, when power is applied, the front end wants to walk all over the road. All 3 cars have all new parts in the front suspension and new dampers all 4 corners. They all are total rebuilds and one car wants to wonder on the highway at all speeds. I have not tsken the third car on the road yet, so do not know how it will handle.

Larry. . .

Front-end alignment (toe-in)?

Uneven front tire pressures?

Worn U-joints in the steering shaft?

Different settings on front adjustable shocks?

All have happened to me in the past.

Thanks, Ron.
Your car is the only one that doesn't do that. I will have my cars alignment checked and I have yet to get the other one aligned as I just took it for t test ride yesterday. Hope to deliver it around the 28th.

Regards,
Larry

Larry,
My TR8 used to do that same thing. I replaced all the bushings in the REAR suspension (the ones that locate the axle) with ureathane and it solved the issues. Under acceleration, the rear axle would torque up and steer the car. It was effectively changing the wheelbase from one side to the other with the stock softer bushings.
I am using delrin bushings on one end of each of the four control arms on my Marcos, with ureathane on the axle end of the arms. My theory is this should allow some compliance without being overly harsh riding, while controlling axle torque.
