NEW TO THE GROUP

2001-08-19 by cjames8573@msn.com

HI,

MY NAME IS CHRIS JAMES FROM PHILADELPHIA, PA. I AM CURRENTLY IN THE
PROCESS OF BUYING A 1969 GT FROM WIRE WHEELS IN FL. THE CAR IS IN
GOOD MECHANICAL CONDITION, BUT DEFINITELY NEEDS A PAINT JOB. I'VE
OWNED SEVERAL MGBs AND A TRIUMPH SPITFIRE, BUT THIS IS MY FIRST
MARCOS. ARE THERE ANY THINGS THAT I SHOULD BE AWARE OF, WHEN BUYING
THIS CARS. AS A PAST BRITISH CAR OWNER, I KNOW THEY ALL LEAK LIKE
CRAZY, BUT ARE THERE ANY PROBLEMS THAT ARE INHERENT TO THE MARCOS. I
WOULD APPRECIATE ANY INPUT, AND I LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING FROM YOU
ALL SOON.

Chris,

Welcome! Good to have you aboard. I just recently purchased a '71
Marcos V6 (see photos). Are you looking at the green one? If so, I
believe (Tad may correct me) that Tad Todd previuosly owned the car.
Tad is a member of this list. Did you visit Wire Wheel? I was
seriously looking at the yellow Marcos/Volvo 6 but found my current
one closer to home.

There is a good article on Mark Saxby's site about buying a Marcos
V6. www.marcosnet.com

Also in a previous message Mike Denman mentioned a "what to look for"
article in the Marcos Car Club magazine.

Good luck!

Hi Chris,
Yes, welcome to the group. I just received from The Marcos Owners
Club in England their latest magazine which has a buyers guide for the
various models. I will try to scan it in to the computer and send it
to you by email. I think you will find Hayes Harris, at Wire Wheel to
be fair and honest and reasonable to deal with. I bought a Lotus 7
from him a while back. Be sure and visit Mark Saxby's web page. We
have a link to his web page on this site under bookmarks.

Boy, you go out of town for 5 days and miss a lot on this group
site! Hi Chris. Don is correct in that I used to own the car you
are interested in. She is a wonderful car in terms of reliability
and would be stunning with a new paint job. Please contact me off
list if I can answer any specific questions about the car that you
may have. The car was gone through mechanically with an emphasis on
reliability as I used her as a daily driver.

By the way, don't be concerned about right hand drive. As far as I'm
concerned, RHD is the only way to go. It drastically increases the
fun factor! My wife currently drives a RHD Mini Cooper (yes, we have
the Brit car bug bad!) and I steal it as often as I can for a dose of
good fun.

Good luck and let me know if I can be of assistance.

Regards,
Tad
