MARCOS XP

2002-04-11 by Dave McGill

Hi Jeff,

I've only been looking in on the Marcos Maniacs for a few week, this Group
and your web site are first class, keep up the work. It's great to see how
strong the group is especially, in the US.

I know have two Marcos related web sites. My first....

http://www.1600gt.freeserve.co.uk/

was set up a year or so ago in an attempt to catalogue all of the various
scale models of the range of Marcos cars. And is being updated on a regular
basis as I find more that I have missed, or when FLY the slot car
manufacturer releases a new car.

But my second site, which is the purpose of this notice, that tells the
story of the Marcos XP and my visit to see the car some years back.
Something I'll never forget!

Anyway, as promised here is the URL for that web site on the Marcos XP. Hope
you and the others enjoy it.........

http://www.1600gt.freeserve.co.uk/Mantis/Home.htm

I've kept the graphics high quality and so over a modem, it's not the
fastest loading site.
But its worth it!!

Cheers,
Dave.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the links!
I had run across your model site when first investigating Marcos (before
I got my car), but had since lost the link.
Being a model collector myself, I love having your site as a reference
and will certainly put links to it on the Maniac's site.
BTW, where on earth did you find some of that stuff? I'd love to get my
hands on some of them like the Provence kits.
Do you know if anyone ever made any 1:18th scale Marcos cars? (That's my
scale of preference)

Regarding the XP site. Great job!!!!! I love it!
You are one lucky guy! Not only do you have a beautiful Marcos of your
own, but you got to see the most elusive Marcos first hand. And got to
ride in it too!!! That's great!
I'll certainly put a link to this site on the Maniac's site as well and
would like to thank you for sharing that with all of us.

BTW, those cooling fans that were added to the XP look like old desk-top
plug-in type fans. Is that what they were?

RE: [MarcosManiacs] MARCOS XP

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the feedback, all but the FLY scale models, and some of the Mini Marcos kits (Not all of which are on the site yet) are about the only models still in production. So, where does it all come from, Auctions, Auto Jumbles and Antique Toy and Collector Fares. You would be amazed at what you find.
I do not know of any 1/18 scale models, which has always amazed me when you see what is about for other makes of cars. One day perhaps.
As for the XP Fans, I think they are just that, but powered by 12v Smiths motors. Just as you find in the later 'snail' type fresh air blowers.

Cheers,
Dave.

Re: MARCOS XP and the 64!!!

2002-04-13 by bennettj62

First of all...
DAVE...totally AWESOME web site on the XP... I was glued to the
monitor. I think I read every word of it and I just can't explain
it... I was envious!!! Just one question though... Did you get overly
excited when he dumped the clutch, plastered your head to the back of
that seat, and made that engine PUUR!!!???? If you didn't, you're a
more controled man than I am!!!

As many of you know, I have been looking for a Marcos GT. I'm probably
the only one here that doesn't own one in this group! Well, I would
have one, had Hayes not sold the one I wanted before I could get
it....but that's a different thing... :)LOL Hayes...no hard
feelings...

I sent an email on Tuesday about the 64 to the dealer asking for the
chassis number, a synopsis of the history, etc... I have not gotten
any response. In fact Jeff, I got more info from you and Dave than
I've gotten out of the dealer....which makes me really wonder...

Therefore... I have some questions that I know will be answered... I
have that much confidence in this group!!!

Regarding the '64....

Is it worth the $19K???
Dave, you said a lot of things didn't add up??? Is it bastardized, or
because it was an early year model, is it factory modified to fit the
parts they had available back then???
If we can find out the chassis number, is there enough info available
to document the motorcar as to why and when the changes may have been
made or even if changes were made???

I have to say, when I first saw the pictures, I noticed a few things
different, but then again, I had been studying the 69-71 series. I
made inquiries specifically about the differences to the dealer...to
no avail! At least as of yet!!!

Guys, I think most of you know how much I want a Marcos GT. I missed
Tad's car... and this appears to be the only other RHD available right
now world wide. At least the earlier models...

Any help would be greatly appreciated....

Thanks,
Bennett Jones

Bennet,

If you're willing to go worldwide, check the "classifieds"
section on Mark Saxby's site. A few nice older ones available.
Also I think Dave Barton contacted the gent in Seattle who had
the Marcos on Ebay a while back. I don't think the reserve was
met. He's had it on there twice. Maybe Dave has his e-mail
address. Dave??

I know how you feel. I just had to have one but circumstances
prevented my buying one immediately. Glad I waited because my
purchase was "one in a million" shot! It'll happen, don't worry.

I've talked to the dealer with the 64. See post #807 for info.
I just think the owner is testing the waters on the price. Even
the dealer asked me what I thought of the price! I'm going down
that way soon and will try to get more info.

Massive Web-site update!!!

2002-04-13 by Jeff Caraway

Hi All,
I just wanted to let everyone know that I have made a fairly LARGE
web-site update to the Maniac's site.
I have added Dave McGill's, Robin Well's, and John Parker's cars to the
registry with Feature Pages.
I have added two items to the Events page. The upcoming California event
and chronicled Michael Crew's and my meeting.
I have also finally gotten around to finishing (or at least releasing)
the Modern Racing page.
A big thanks to Eric Bron, Michael Crews, and Mark Saxby for
contributions to this page. Mark has an EXCELLENT racing section on his
site!
Also, be sure to check out the general Daytona galleries that I put
under this section. Along with Marcos at Daytona, you can see some
excellent shots of all the teams at Daytona courtesy of Michael Crews. I
know a lot of them aren't Marcos, but the pictures where just so great,
I had to share! Hope you guys enjoy them as much as I do.

That's all for now. I'm beat!

Cya,
Jeff Caraway

Jeff,

Fantastic!! Can't believe all the info you put on the site.
Please know that it is greatly appreciated!! I'm going to have
to break down and get satellite hi-speed internet. Up here in
the redwoods if I get 28kps I'm really doing good but I don't
have the patience to wait for the pics!

I guess we expected that the site would grow when we were talking
about it but it seems to have exploded lately. The more the
merrier!

If the Yahoo Group and the website are a little much, I'd be
willing to do the moderator thing on the Yahoo group. Don't
really know how much is involved but I'll do it. Doesn't seem
fair for you to have all the fun!! Let me know.

RE: [MarcosManiacs] Massive Web-site update!!!

2002-04-15 by Jeff Caraway

Hi Don,
Thanks for the compliments on the site!
How intensive is the site for a connection like yours? Are there any
problem areas I could/ should look at changing?

Yeah... I agree! I'm glad to see all the new members on the Yahoo group.
And the hits to the web site!

At this point, I think I can still handle the Yahoo group moderation,
but THANKS for the offer.
There really isn't much to it other than kicking off junk mailers, and
making sure no one gets into fights (we are truly blessed with a good
bunch!), or posts in-appropriate material.
I'll definitely keep that in mind should I need someone to take over
though.

BTW, I can't believe that the CA car in Hemmings appraised at $24,000!!!
With the hood and lights being kind of funny, I would have expected it
to be much less.
I guess it's more because it is on of the De-Dion cars. Or did we
establish that?

Best Regards,
Jeff

Jeff,

The only real intensive page is the "registry". It takes a bit
for it to load.

The Mystery Marcos sold for over $28k. Seller pocketed $28k!

Do you have a counter on the site?? How many hits have you had??

RE: [MarcosManiacs] Massive Web-site update!!!

2002-04-16 by Jeff Caraway

Hi Don,
That's interesting about the Registry. I didn't think it would be that
much of a problem. I guess it is the embedded graphics (even though they
are thumbnailed).

Yes there is a counter towards the bottom of the main page.
It's on 242 right now, but probably 10 of those are from me when I was
playing with the site.

The bad thing about this counter is that is needs to be reset every
month for some reason. So the 242 is really since I reset it back on the
first Friday of April.
I need to get a better one.
